Dubai is, in my opinion, such a weird city! There are more expats than locals, so you find a huge mix of cultures and all your local foodstuff you wouldn’t want to miss when abroad.
MY 5 BEST TIPS FOR VISITING DUBAI
- Visit Old Town Dubai – We all know the Burj Khalifa, the Dubai Mall and all the touristic places. But to find the real culture, visit the Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.
- Dress appropriately – In some areas of Dubai you would almost forget that you’re in an Arab country. But it’s important to respect the culture and therefore, cover your shoulders and legs when in public places. In beach clubs and hotels it may be totally acceptable to dress how you like, but it’s never bad to kindly ask what is the norm.
- Stay cool and hydrated – And I’m serious about that.. the temperatures rise so high that if you spent much time outside in the sun, you may get dehydrated.
- Visit the desert – If you have the chance, make your way to the desert! One of my friends who lives in Dubai took me on a ride with a 4×4 and it was (a bit scary, but) soooo much fun! Crossing over the sand dunes and watching the sunset in the middle of the desert was spectacular.
- Skydive – Near Dubai Marina there is Skydive Dubai and I got the chance to jumpseat one of their skydive-dropping flights with the Twinotter! So no, I didn’t jump, but I did get to see the view over Dubai from 12.000ft, the view you could have when skydiving from here!
